Bluetooth is a device that allows the exchange of information between wireless devices within around 10 meters of each other through short-wavelength radio waves. The demand for Bluetooth devices is on the rise today. The primary reason for their growing popularity is that they allow us to go wireless. Particularly when there are a lot of devices to be connected together, all the wiring can lead to a tangled mess. Devices that could be used through Bluetooth are mobile phones, laptops, palmtops, wireless printers, keyboards & mouse. In the case of Bluetooth enabled cell phones, one can turn the Bluetooth on and connect to a wireless headset allowing the person to go hands-free without worrying about the wires. A Bluetooth connected wireless mouse works in much the same way.
There are certain prerequisites to make certain that the Bluetooth device works properly. As mentioned above, the two devices exchanging the information should be within proximity of 10 meters of each other. Also, the devices should have the appropriate Bluetooth driver software installed in them. Just like all other devices, a Bluetooth device requires its own driver. The driver ensures that all commands are properly followed. So the driver is basically like a translator between the two wireless devices. Each device has its own particular commands and a program uses common commands to communicate them to the driver. The driver, in turn, translates those general commands to commands that the device can use.
Bluetooth Essentials for Programmers
It’s quite easy to install a Bluetooth driver. One simply has to run the installer which comes with the device. The installation wizard guides us through the process step by step. We can connect the device after the driver has been installed. A Bluetooth icon is present in the system tray at the bottom right corner of the screen. It appears white with a blue background when the driver is successfully installed and red with a blue background when it hasn’t installed correctly.
If the icon appears red, one should first check if the installation directions were followed accurately. Troubleshooting instructions come along with the devices. If the problem is still not clear one may check on the manufacturer’s website. The most ideal place to find a driver is on the manufacturer’s website as they are the ones who create the driver and keep themselves updated.
A Bluetooth device may suddenly stop working. This is not a reason to worry as technology is never perfect. It can happen that the Bluetooth device’s files become corrupted following the installation of unrelated software on the PC. If such is the case, one should try re-installing the drivers. All drivers should be kept updated to ensure that all new features are working.
